Concorso fotografico: “Il popolo dei Salvafiume racconta la Valle dell’Aniene”

We received a report about this event as we have deemed worthy of note, with pleasure, and therefore disclose:

Association Together for the Aniene in collaboration with the Lazio Regional Council under the 2009 call For local projects for social, cultural and environmental value to the territory of the valley of organized the photo contest: "The people of the Valley tells Salvafiume dell'Aniene" .

"There was once a river that flowed
quiet and forgotten at the bottom of a valley.
A humble river which was mentioned only in exceptional cases
rains or when, in spite ,
carried downstream poisonous substances.
yet it was a famous river!
Along its course hunting and si accampava
l’uomo preistorico, vennero costruite torri,
ponti ed acquedotti, l’imperatore Nerone fece
erigere una sontuosa dimora, ville e giardini
sono tuttora arricchiti dalle sue acque,
eppure … pochi avevano memoria di tutto ciò.
Si racconta nella Valle che questi pochi uomini
di buona memoria vollero far qualcosa per
rinverdire gli antichi fasti.
Bisognava far conoscere il fiume alla gente,
farlo amare come una volta.”
“E come?”
“Raccontando di lui, con immagini e parole
che testimoniassero le bellezze degli ambienti
naturali e dei luoghi della storia lambiti dalle
sue acque.

these men were convinced it was possible to change the future of this river

It is said that, over time, those few men
joined many others and soon the Valley
was populated by people of various kinds, from
even from distant places, but
united by a single purpose.
Those men are still remembered as the People of Salvafiume. "

Il segreto di Santa Vittoria

Immaginate che per le strade e le piazze di uno dei piccoli centri della Valle dell'Aniene un giorno venisse invaso da una troupe cinematografica, e che nei piccoli bar,nei vicoli si aggirassero stelle del cinema internazionale, magari anche un premio oscar.

Se questo scenario vi sembra alquanto alieno dalla realtà monotona che spesso avvolge lo scorrere del tempo nei piccoli borghi della Valle dell'Aniene, occorre sapere che in realtà è già accaduto.

Infatti Anticoli Corrado si è trasformato in set cinematografico d'eccezione alla fine degli anni 60, quando il regista  Stanley Kramer venne in questo piccolo centro della Valdaniene per girare il suo film dal titolo "Il segreto di Santa Vittoria" che poi will have a considerable success, winning a Golden Globe for Best Picture in 1970 and getting two Oscar nominations.

fact, the cast was respectable, by Oscar winner Anthony Quinn Anna Magnani, Virna Lisi Rascel to Renato, a young man with Giancarlo Giannini.

The film tells a story based on a novel by Robert Crichton, that Wikipedia claims that the script is inspired by a true story during the German occupation in the country.

the fall of fascism, the people of Santa Vittoria - a country in Piedmont is famous for the quality of his wine - a wine merchant elects mayor drunk - Italo Bombolino. A few days later comes the news that the retreating Germans want take possession of all bottled wine, the only wealth of the country, kept in the store. Recommended by Carlo - an officer defector, who lives hidden in the house of the Countess Malatesta - Bombolino decides to play the Germans, hiding a million bottles in a cave from the Roman period. Having accomplished the task, which works throughout the country, and the Germans arrived, Bombolino delivery to their commander, Captain Von Prum, the remaining hundred thousand bottles, making sure there are others. Knowing that the mayor mind, Von Prum makes searching the country, but to no avail. Less submissive to him, two soldiers arrived with the task to wrest the truth from sanvittoriani but Bombolino can play them too. Enraged, Von Prum minaccia dapprima di uccidere Carlo, poi lo stesso Bombolini. In entrambi i casi, però, i sanvittoriani continuano a tacere e il capitano, giunto l'ordine di partire, se ne va senza essere riuscito a scoprire dove è stato nascosto il vino.

Il film, nato come commedia, rivela aspetti storici e del costume italiano certamente non inediti ma che comunque dànno adito a spunti di riflessione su quanto avvenne nell'italia fascista al momento della caduta del regime.

Per l'importanza di questa pellicola e del cast che vi ha lavorato, sarebbe stato interessante, che nel IV decennale dalla sua realizzazione si fosse operato per divulgarne i contenuti alle nuove generazioni che non conoscono l'esistenza della pellicola or who do not know how this area has been represented outside the Italian cultural circuits.

opportunity for this might have been the Aniene Film Festival, but also the work of cultural associations that operate profitably in the Valley for some time could be the ideal vehicle to spread the positive sometimes this area can offer.
